The park is open sunrise to sunset daily. Sunset time is posted and gates are locked at sunset. The office hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Emails are viewed daily and over the weekend. Phone messages are answered Monday through Friday during office hours.

The over 500-acre park, leased to Baltimore County, is a multi-faceted facility with numerous trails, nature and environmental programs, a dog park, pavilions, and waterfront activities, such as canoeing and kayaking for all to enjoy. It offers the opportunity for users to enjoy the rare plant life that exists only in the serpentine barrens.

Lake Roland Nature Council

The County works in partnership with the Lake Roland Nature Council. Both groups are working cooperatively to insure that the park continues to address the needs of both the community and all users of the park.

Paw Point Dog Park

Paw Point is a fenced, one acre off leash dog park which is located within Lake Roland. The dog park is equipped with benches and bag dispensers for cleaning up dog waste. Membership allows two licensed/vaccinated dogs entry to the facility. More information about the dog park and membership forms can be found by visiting Paw Point. Patrons are reminded that when their dogs are not in the fenced in area of the dog park they must remain on a leash.

Programs at Lake Roland

Lake Roland offers a wide variety of programs throughout the year for youth and adults. Get detailed information from the Lake Roland Nature Council.

Canoeing and Kayaking

Canoeing and kayaking are allowed at Lake Roland. A permit is not required. All boaters must wear a life preserver at all times while on the water and children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that trailers and sailboats are not allowed. Visitors boat at their own risk.


Lake Roland has two pavilions. Pavilion 1 is located at the top of the hill and Pavilion 2 overlooks the dam. The pavilions are first come, first served for families (groups under 12 persons) only if they are not reserved. For groups over 12 persons and for organizations a permit is required. Please send an email with your name, mailing address, phone, date you are requesting, times of your event, type of event, number of guests (limited to 60) and the pavilion you are interested in reserving. Please send the information to The park office will contact you with availability, answer additional questions and send out the permit. All pavilion requests must be received in writing.
